Course Description

The NIIOS organizes wetlab instruction courses at regular time intervals. Each course consists of a two-day program scheduled on Tuesday and Wednesday. At the first day (Tuesday), participants are invited to observe various live-surgeries in patients, and at the second day (Wednesday), participants receive a hands-on training in lamellar keratoplasty techniques in a wetlab set-up.  It is anticipated that participants

  • become familiair with the indications, results, complications and aftercare of the various surgical techniques for anterior and posterior lamellar keratoplasty and in particular DMEK;
  • become familiar with the various methods for surgical preparation and preservation of donor corneal tissue used for DMEK;
  • achieve a basic training in DMEK in porcine eyes;
  • observe 3-4 live-surgeries to become familiar with relevant clinical protocols for DMEK.

If desired, it is possible to receive extra information about DALK and DSEK.

The educational level of the wetlab instruction courses is advanced. To apply, please download Wetlab Application Form Wetlab Application Form or fill out the on-line form below. The course fee is 3290 euro. Three nights at the hotel, the DMEK book, dinner on Tuesday evening and lunches during the course are included.

Please note: Course fees are used entirely to cover the organizational costs of the wetlabs and to sponsor the R&D activities at the NIIOS, that lacks university grant support or any other financial support.
The course fee has to be paid one month before the start of the course. After payment your course participation is assured. Starting from 3 weeks before the course cancellation fees apply.
